![]() I mean, I'm sure there are issues with the above, but the key is that other Secret Techs don't require the player to prioritize the secret tech in research compared to other goals, as they're useful earlier. The initial mods don't help much on their own, and one needs the later research to get the most out of their starting units, i.e., the Pustules, so that they can evolve to higher forms. That's useful even if the player can't research further into Synthesis for awhile, or wants to take a more balanced approach.īy comparison, Geneplague forces the player into a very specific strategy to successfully use the Secret Tech, because they need to go out of their way to research the tech to use it properly. For example, Synthesis has some cool late game stuff, but, its useful immediately because it offers excellent unit mods that dramatically improve Tier 1 units through accuracy improvements(which is a mod most secret techs don't have access to), and in one case, dodge chance. ![]() Most secret techs offer more options, and are relatively flexible. ![]() Which actually gets to my biggest issue with gene plague: Well, that, and you're forced to go out of your way in your tech tree to make them work, in the sense that one really needs to research things like Destroyers early, and Plaguelords as soon as possible.
